FREEPORT, Maine (AP)   L.L. Bean’s latest version of its iconic boot features something old and something borrowed to make something new.

The Maine-based retailer is partnering with outdoor gear startup Flowfold for the first co-branded version of the boot.

The boots will feature L.L. Bean’s traditional rubber bottom along with recycled sailcloth sourced by Flowfold for the upper part of the boot.

L.L. Bean has shown a willingness in recent years to experiment with different colors and materials for its boot, first produced in 1912. A spokeswoman said co-branded boot is a small-batch version with only about 3,500 pairs being produced.
