Maine’s Attorney General is joining a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship.

Aaron Frey joins 18 other Attorneys General in the suit, which claims that the ban violates a constitutional right to which all children born in the U.S. are entitled.

In a statement, Frey said “The election did not change the Constitution, and legal action is required to remind the President that his oath is to uphold that sacred document, not rewrite it.”

The Trump administration says the children of noncitizens are not subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. and are not covered by the 14th amendment.
