Maine astronaut to retire, leaving behind decades-long service record

An astronaut from Maine is retiring after returning from the International Space Station last year.

According to CBS 13, Chris Cassidy is retiring from NASA and the U.S. Navy after a 28-year service record, 17 of which were spent with NASA. He returned to Earth from the International Space Station in October of 2020.

Between his three trips to the ISS, Cassidy has spent a combined year of his life orbiting our planet.

Cassidy went to high school in York and said he never considered becoming an astronaut back then, but made it a career goal after his time as a Navy SEAL.
