A former Lewiston soccer star who was in a coma after getting hit by a car has died.

Zakariya Abdullahi was on a religious pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia with family members when he and his brother were hit by a car a few weeks ago. It left him in a coma, and there were plans to transfer him to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

A GoFundMe page set up to help cover his medical bills reached nearly $125,000.

Abdullahi was a standout player on the Blue Devils state championship team in 2015.

He had been living with his mother in Minnesota.
