Maine’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention has identified a case of hepatitis A in a worker at a restaurant in Somerset County.

The Maine CDC said Wednesday the worker handled food at The Birches Resort Restaurant in Rockwood while infectious from September 2nd through September 22nd.

Health officials recommend anyone who ate food prepared at the restaurant or worked there from September 16th through the 22nd receive a hepatitis A vaccine within 14 days of their potential exposure.

The vaccine is effective within the 14-day window of potential exposure.

Anyone who visited outside that window but may have been exposed is advised to monitor themselves for symptoms, which include tiredness, low appetite, stomach pain, nausea, dark urine and jaundice in adults. Children under 6 often don’t have symptoms or develop an unknown infection.
