Maine’s Congressional delegation dismissed the president’s plan to take over Gaza and develop its economy.

In an interview Wednesday with the Portland Press Herald, Republican Sen. Susan Collins says the plan to move Palestinians out of Gaza would be unworkable, and the announcement may have been intended as a negotiation tactic.

Maine Independent Sen. Angus King said the plan would bring “serious and dangerous national security implications.”

Maine Democratic Rep. Jared Golden said neither he nor Americans want to see U.S. troops on the ground in Gaza, and that he would rather see concrete actions from the Trump administration to secure the release of hostages still being held by Hamas.

Democratic Rep. Chellie Pingree called the idea “brazen and inflammatory.”
