Maine could see millions in federal health payments withheld over fraud accusations

The Trump administration could halt billions of dollars in federal health payments to multiple states, including Maine.

KFF Health News reports the federal government has threatened to withhold $2 billion in Medicaid funding from Minnesota over massive fraud accusations.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services head Mehmet Oz says techniques used in Minnesota could be applied to other states, including Maine.

So far, the agency has demanded the state answer dozens of questions about Maine’s Medicaid spending and what it’s doing to detect waste and fraud.
