LEBANON, Maine (AP) Maine forestry officials are expanding an emergency order to try to stop the spread of a destructive forest pest that has been located in the state.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry recently announced that trees infested with the emerald ash borer have been found in western York County.
The borer has killed hundreds of millions of ash trees nationwide and in Canada since 2002.
The pest was previously discovered in Aroostook County, and the state issued an emergency order to stop movement of ash in three Aroostook towns.
The new order is expanded to include the York County towns of Acton, Berwick, Lebanon and Shapleigh. The order restricts the movement of firewood and some ash products.
