FLAGSTAFF TOWNSHIP, Maine (WGAN) Maine game wardens say a hunter has died from an unintentional, self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Wardens say it happened in Flagstaff Township, which is near Flagstaff Lake in Somerset and Franklin counties. 57-year-old Mark Henderson of Eustis accidentally shot himself in the lower left leg while hunting on a remote logging road around 6 P.M. Tuesday. He was found about an hour later, but died of his injuries despite the efforts of emergency responders.

Wardens say it’s the first hunting incident of the year. Over the last ten years, Maine has averaged only 6 hunting incidents per year, and three fatal incidents over that ten year period.
