Maine investigators hopeful for new information in decades-old missing person case

Friday marks 22 years since a Massachusetts man disappeared in Maine, and now his family are hoping an increased reward for information will bring them closure.

Maine State Police say Angel “Tony” Torres traveled to Maine to visit his friends at the end of his junior year in college in 1999. Friday, May 21st will mark 22 years since he was last seen.

Police say he was on South Street in Biddeford the night he disappeared. He was accompanied by Jay Carney, a key witness in the investigation who died of a drug overdose in 2015. Police say he died without giving them the whole story of what happened that night, and investigators suspect foul play was involved.

Angel’s parents say the reward in their son’s case has grown to $16,500. Anyone with information that could lead to the recovery of his remains is being asked to call Maine State Police.

“Maine State Police detectives are interested in talking to anyone who has more information about Angel’s disappearance,” said Lt. Scott Gosselin of Major Crimes Unit Southern Maine. “We are confident that the right information from courageous people in the community is very likely to help us bring a successful resolution for the Torres family.”
