Corrections officials say an inmate at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor died on Sunday.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office says the inmate was found to be in a “life-threatening situation” during a routine population check around 5 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said the death was not the result of an altercation with another inmate, and no one else was injured or impacted.

Medical personnel were unable to revive the individual.

No other details about the cause or manner of death were immediately available.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office and Maine Department of Corrections were notified. The incident is also being investigated by the Bangor Police Department and the Penobscot County Law Enforcement Division.

Officials were expected to release the person’s name on Monday.
