The construction of a hydropower electricity corridor in Maine could be jeopardized by a judge’s ruling that came down Tuesday.
A superior court justice ruled that the administration of Governor Janet Mills had no authority to lease the public lands that the hydropower corridor would cross.
The state constitution says leases that reduce or alter state lands need two-thirds approval in the legislature.
Construction on the New England Clean Energy Connect, which would deliver hydropower from Canada to the New England grid, has already begun.
NECEC CEO and President Thorn Dickinson said Tuesday they’re reviewing the judge’s decision and are looking at their next steps.
