A legal challenge seeking to overturn Maine’s cable customer protection law failed in the U.S. Supreme Court this week.
According to the Portland Press Herald, the court declined to hear a challenge to the law which was supposed to go into effect in 2020. The law requires cable companies to prorate the bill for the final month of service.
Spectrum Northeast, which is part of Charter Communications Inc., argued the state law was pre-empted by federal law. The company still complied with the state law while its appeal was pursued.
Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey says Maine cable customers who canceled service since September of 2020 should make sure their last bill was prorated or request a refund from their provider.
