The Maine Warden Service is investigating an ATV crash in Vassalboro that left a man dead Friday night.

Wardens say 52-year-old Cobey Schmidt of Vassalboro was driving his side-by-side-style ATV in his yard when the left front tire hit a rock.

They say Schmidt was partially ejected from the ATV, which then rolled on top of him.

Wardens say a person driving by saw the ATV on its side with the lights pointing at the road and called 911.

Schmidt was pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation shows speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Schmidt was the only person in the ATV.
