Maine man charged with filing false report about staples found in Halloween candy


LEWISTON, Maine (WGAN) A Lewiston man admitted to police that a report about staples he found in Halloween candy was a hoax.

According to the Sun Journal, 27-year-old Alexander Hanks was issued a summons and charged with filing a false report.

He told police he found metal shards and staples in his son’s candy after going trick-or-treating in Lewiston and Auburn. A detective was brought in to investigate the claims.

Hanks has since admitted the claims were fabricated and expressed remorse.
