Maine man killed in crash in Somerset County lost consciousness at the wheel, passenger says

A crash in Hartland on Thursday left one man dead.

According to The Morning Sentinel, 56-year-old Matthew Sites of Athens was behind the wheel of a pickup truck when he went off Athens Road Thursday afternoon. His vehicle hit a tree before rolling over onto its roof.

The passenger said Sites lost consciousness at the wheel. The passenger appeared uninjured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Officials said neither the driver nor passenger were wearing seatbelts.

An investigation is underway.
