A South Thomaston man was sentenced Thursday to 18 months in prison for defrauding more than one million dollars from the Paycheck Protection Program.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine says 43-year-old Mark Haley II pleaded guilty to the charges in February.

Court records show Haley filed fraudulent PPP loan applications using false information. He used some of the funding he received to purchase a sailboat, which he claimed was itself a functioning business.

Haley was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay more than one million dollars in restitution.
