NEW SHARON, Maine (AP) Officials say an 85-year-old Maine man suffered burns over 80% of his body when he accidentally set himself on fire.
The fire marshal’s office says John Gill, of New Sharon, was burning trash in a barrel when he added gasoline, causing flames to erupt early Wednesday evening.
Gill was critically injured. He was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland by a LifeFlight helicopter.
According to the Portland Press Herald, Gill’s condition had been upgraded to serious as of Tuesday morning.
