BETHEL, Maine (WGAN) A Maine man is facing multiple charges after speeding away from a traffic stop.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy made a traffic stop on Nov. 23 for a traffic violation on Rt. 156 in Chesterville near the intersection with Vienna Road. Police say the driver did not provide a driver’s license and gave a false name.
The deputy was able to identify the driver as 25-year-old Devin Leonard. Police say Leonard had 18 active driver’s license suspensions as well as a warrant for unpaid fines. When the deputy returned to the car and address Leonard by his real name, police say he took off on Vienna Road.
Police gave chase, but cut if off after a short while. Leonard was charged with several more crimes and police asked for the public’s help in finding him.
On Sunday, the sheriff’s office says Leonard was arrested in the town of Bethel after he was found in Family Dollar Store in Lewiston in a stolen car. Two Oxford County sheriff’s deputies arrested Leonard and he was taken to Franklin County Jail on Monday to face his charges.
