Maine mom accused of telling son to ‘be safe’ while stealing

A Maine woman is accused of putting her child at risk after police say she told her son to “be safe” while he was stealing.

Oxford police say a group of juveniles from Oxford, Jay and Wilton stole a car before breaking into two stores on Monday.

According to CBS 13, they allegedly stole a BB gun, alcohol and some cash.

Police say when one of the juveniles went home, his mother, 38-year-old Becky Steadman, took the money and alcohol.

Police say Steadman’s son said he was going out to steal more items and that’s when she allegedly told him to “be safe.”

The woman was arrested by police and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, violating conditions of release and receiving stolen property.

The juveniles were charged with theft, breaking and entering and burglary.
