Maine’s Attorney General says a moving and storage company will pay $125,000 for engaging in illegal business practices, including threatening customers who left negative reviews.

Attorney General Aaron Frey said Tuesday the settlement concerned Liberty Bell Moving and Storage Inc. and its owner, Kevin Finkenaur. Frey says an investigation found the company in violation of the federal Consumer Review Fairness Act, the Maine Unfair Trade Practices Act, and regulations for businesses that engage in interstate moving operations.

Frey said Finkenaur was using a misleading email address indicating it was the company’s attorney to threaten people who left negative online reviews.

The company also agreed to no longer require customers to absolve them of all claims before service, which violates Maine law.
