Maine police use DNA to make arrest in decades-old “Baby Jane Doe” case

Maine State Police say an arrest has been made in a 36-year-old cold case.

The investigation began in December of 1985, when Baby Jane Doe was found dead in Frenchville. A dog found the newborn and carried her body to his owner’s home. After tracking the dog’s path, police discovered that the newborn was abandoned at a gravel pit in below zero temperatures

Maine State Police Detectives travelled to Lowell, Massachusetts on Monday to arrest 58-year-old Lee Ann Daigle, formerly Lee Ann Guerette, who was identified as Baby Jane Doe’s mother thanks to DNA and genetic genealogy.

Daigle was charged with murder and is being held at Aroostook County Jail. She was expected to make her first court appearance via Zoom on Tuesday morning.
