Maine reaches more than 250 confirmed cases of coronavirus

Public health experts reported on Sunday that there were 253 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Maine. The latest number of cases announced by The Maine Center for Disease Control is up from the 211 cases that were reported on Saturday.

Health officials said the virus has now reached 12 of Maine’s 16 counties. Cumerland County still has the most cases by a wide margin, 142. York County has the second most with 47. The Maine CDC has confirmed community transmission in both counties.

The state reported its first COVID-19 death on Friday, which involved a Cumberland County man in his 80s. The man’s name has not been released.

There were more than 130,000 coronavirus cases in the US as of Sundy afternoon. About 2,300 people had died.
