The Maine CDC has reported the state’s second case of monkeypox.

Health officials on Monday said the infected individual is a man from Penobscot County. They’re working to identify others who may have been exposed and offering vaccines to close contacts.

The state’s first case of monkeypox was reported in York County on July 22. At that time, the Maine CDC said it had enough doses to vaccinate 311 people against the virus.

As of Friday, there were a total of 5,189 confirmed cases of monkeypox nationwide.

Transmission of the virus usually results from close physical contact with an infected person.
