The Maine Principal’s Association has taken the advice of state regulators and delayed the start of the fall sports season at Maine’s schools.

The MPA initially laid out a plan which introduced health and safety measures to keep students athletes safe at games and practices. Maine DHHS Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew and Education Commissioner Pender Makin sent the MPA a letter on Tuesday, recommending the association delay the start of the season to address key areas of the plan. Those included mask usage and physical distancing of spectators, which Lambrew and Makin said were not in compliance with state guidelines.

On Wednesday, the MPA announced it would push the start date for fall sports to Monday, September 14th. It says more details will come outlining the changes that will be made to the plan.
