Maine’s CDC reported another another 732 new cases of coronavirus over the four-day period from Saturday through Tuesday, as well as six additional deaths.
Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah said in recent weeks they’re still moving through a backlog of positive tests. On Wednesday, he said more than 2,400 positive test results still needed to be reviewed, and they were receiving anywhere between 420 to 440 new results each day that were being added to the pile.
Wednesday’s update brings the seven-day daily average of new cases to roughly 359, compared to 282 a week ago and 122 a month ago.
As of Wednesday, 187 people were in Maine hospitals with COVID-19. 67 were in critical care units and 32 were on ventilators.
Dr. Shah is returning to a weekly schedule with his briefings, which he uses to provide the latest numbers and updates about the state’s handling of the pandemic. They’ll take place every Wednesday at 2 p.m. going forward, as the Delta variant continues to drive a spike in new cases.
