PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Republican members of the Maine Senate say the state’s Democratic governor’s plan to reopen the state will cost thousands of jobs and spur economic turmoil.

The charge from the GOP came on Monday, after some Republican members of the Maine House of Representatives called on Democratic leaders to call the Maine Legislature back into session to end the state of civil emergency declared by Democratic Gov. Janet Mills.

Mills placed the state under a stay-at-home order until May 31 and has announced a phased plan of reopening that began on May 1.

There have been more than 1,100 total cases of the virus in Maine through Sunday.
