AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine lawmakers are leaving it up to Congress to protect key provisions of former President Obama’s health care law.

The Maine Senate upheld a veto Monday of a bill to allow children younger than 26 to remain on their parents’ health insurance policy if the act’s repealed. Democratic Sen. Troy Jackson’s bill also would have prevented individual, group and blanket health plans from excluding individuals with pre-existing conditions.

Republican Gov. Paul LePage said he wouldn’t sign a bill based on speculation.

The House and Senate recently overrode the governor’s veto of a separate bill to preserve preventative health services requirements under the federal health care law. LePage said he wouldn’t sign into Maine law the same provisions he claims have made the Obama law a disaster.
