PARIS, Maine (WGAN) After denying allegations that he propositioned employees for sex, Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant has resigned from office.

Gallant’s lawyer told Maine Public Radio that the sheriff submitted his resignation in writing Wednesday afternoon. The announcement came a day after Oxford County Commissioners made a formal request to Governor LePage to remove him from office.

According to the Sun Journal, Gallant’s attorney, Jim Martemucci, said the resignation came after careful consideration and discussion with family members.

Last month, Gallant admitted to sending lewd photos of himself in uniform to women. He denied later accusations that he also solicited sex from employees and threaten to fire one who rejected him.
