Maine SOS calls for legislation to target obscene vanity license plates

Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows was expected to testify Tuesday afternoon in support of legislation that would allow her office to reject some vanity plates.

Bellows is coming out in support of three proposed pieces of legislation which would create standards for vanity plates and allow her to reject plates with vulgarity or obscenities.

She was set to testify before the Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Transportation around 1 p.m.
