KITTERY, Maine (WGAN) A crash involving a tractor-trailer and a Maine State Police cruiser resulted in only minor injuries.
State police say the crash happened around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday on the Maine Turnpike near mile 1 southbound in Kittery.
Trooper Robert Flynn was stopped in the breakdown lane with his cruiser’s blue lights on. He was stopped behind a flatbed truck that was being towed for a mechanical issue.
A tractor-trailer being driven by 52-year-old Johnny Rogers of New York drifted into the breakdown lane, striking the cruiser and then pinning a Jeep Cherokee against a concrete barrier.
The trooper and the occupants in the Cherokee suffered minor injuries and were being evaluated at the hospital.
The driver of the flatbed truck was struck by a piece of debris from the cruiser and was being evaluated for what were believed to be minor injuries. The tow truck driver who was working underneath the flatbed at the time was not hurt.
Rogers was charged with failure to move over for an emergency vehicle and distracted driving.
The center and right lanes were closed for a couple of hours.
