HOWLAND, Maine (WGAN) Police say a Maine man who was present when a 3-year-old boy died in Penobscot County is being held without bail, but has not been charged in the child’s death.

Maine State Police learned about the death of the boy in Howland on Saturday night. He was identified as Justin Jenkins Jr, according to WMTW-TV.

38-year-old Justin Jenkins was charged with violating conditions of his release. Jenkins had a no-contact order with the boy’s mother and allegedly violated it by being present at the time of his death. That no-contact order was related to a domestic violence conviction in 2019.

The medical examiner’s office was expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Jenkins made his first court appearance via Zoom on Monday.
