Maine State Prison inmate dies

WARREN, Maine (WGAN) Maine’s Department of Corrections says a man died inside the Maine State Prison in Warren on Thursday night.

The department says 60-year-old Joseph Dumas, originally from Prentiss, died around 7:20 p.m. Thursday, with prison staff present at the time of his passing. The Attorney General’s Office and medical examiner were notified, which is standard for prisoner deaths.

Dumas was sentenced in 2009 to 30 years behind bars for murder.

No word yet on the cause of death.
