Maine Supreme Court hears oral arguments over double murder appeal

Mark Penley

A Maine man sentenced for the killing of his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend is appealing his double murder conviction.

According to CBS 13 news, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court heard oral arguments in the case this week.

Mark Penley was sentenced to life behind bars for killing his ex-girlfriend, Heather Bickford, and her boyfriend, Dana Hill in their South Paris apartment on New Year’s Day in 2019.

Penley is appealing the conviction in part because of evidence that was used in the trial.

Court documents show Bickford feared for her safety in the days leading up to the killings. They also show that Penley was jealous and made threats against the couple.

No decision was made during the hearing.
