AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) Maine’s state government is working with farmers markets to create a new program that assists the markets in using wireless equipment to process transactions with federal food assistance.
The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry said on Monday it’s working with the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and Maine Federation of Farmers’ Markets on the new Maine Farm Food Access Program.
The program is designed to help farmers markets and direct-market farms acquire wireless electronic benefits transfer equipment to process Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments.
