RUMFORD, Maine (AP) A town in Maine that fired its manager without documenting cause has settled a wrongful termination lawsuit she brought against it.

Rumford fired Linda-Jean Briggs from her position as town manager in January 2019 under a Provision in her employment contract.

The Lewiston Sun Journal reported Tuesday that the town will pay Briggs $250,000 to settle the lawsuit.

Briggs’ employment contract with the town included a provision that she could be fired without cause if the town paid her six months of her salary.

Briggs argued that the contract violated state and local employment protections.
