Maine unable to provide daily test figures for coronavirus

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Maine health officials have received high marks from the public for their response to the pandemic, but the state lags behind others in the region in reporting some key data.

The Portland Press Herald reports it’s the only New England state unable to provide daily reports on how many people are tested for the virus.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention says having outside labs conducting tests makes it harder to get a handle on the figure, so it chose weekly reporting.

Also of note: Maine has disclosed the number of non-resident COVID-19 cases only once, even though it has the nation’s highest proportion of vacation homes.
