HALLOWELL, Maine (AP) Some Maine residents have shared their concerns with the state about a proposed 145-mile power transmission line.

The Kennebec Journal reports dozens of people gathered Wednesday in Hallowell for a public hearing with the Maine Public Utilities Commission. Central Maine Power’s planned New England Clean Energy Connect project would bring power from Quebec to Massachusetts.

Residents argued the line will negatively affect the environment. Other speakers argued the project will disturb activity on the Kennebec River and parts of the Appalachian Trail.

Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque and others argued the project would bring millions in tax revenue to the area. Proponents also highlighted the jobs the project would create.

CMP needs approval from PUC and federal authorities before it can move forward with construction.
