AUGUSTA, Maine (WGAN) Maine’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be reopening to the public, but you’ll have to make an appointment first.

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap says that beginning Monday, June 1st, twelve of the 13 BMV branch offices in Maine will be open by phone or in-person appointment only. The central office at 101 Hospital Street in Augusta will open as well.

The Springvale BMV branch will be closed to ensure adequate staffing levels at all branch offices.

“This reopening plan will allow us to resume the important work of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles while also protecting our employees and the public from exposure during officevisits,” said Secretary Dunlap. “We want to thank the public for having patience with us during the BMV closure and ask for continued understanding as we navigate this reopening of services.”

The department says that anyone looking to complete transactions like registration renewals and replacements, license and ID renewals and replacements, over-limit permits and duplicate titles should continue to use the online services whenever possible.
