Maine’s District Attorneys and Attorney General Aaron Frey, joined with U.S. Attorney Darcie N. McElwee released a statement Friday reassuring domestic violence victims that Maine’s Statutes are still enforced by the state.

This announcement was in response to the appellate court decision in Louisiana earlier this month that ruled denying legal firearm possession to individuals with domestic violence restraining orders as unconstitutional.

Maine District Attorneys say that the case United States v. Rahimi, is not binding on the District of Maine, and is only applicable to states within the fifth circuit, which is Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
