PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Maine broke records for the number of homes sold and the median price in 2018.

According to Maine Listings, a total of 17,864 homes changed hands last year. That’s a 1.3 percent increase over the previous year. The value of the homes jumped 7.5 percent over the previous year with an average statewide median sale price of $215,000.

Maine’s growth in home sales’ volume and price for the year outpaced that of the nation.

Peter Harrington, president of the Maine Association of Realtors, says the state figures are the highest in the two decades the data has been compiled. Average median prices ranged from $307,000 in Cumberland County to $90,000 in Aroostook County.
