AUGUSTA, Maine (AP)   A few of Maine’s small game hunting seasons are wrapping up with the end of the year.

Maine’s winter hunting seasons focus on small animals, while the fall seasons target deer, bear and moose. Monday is the last day of the year for the gray squirrel, raccoon, skunk and opossum seasons.

New Year’s Eve is also the last day of the seasons for ruffed grouse, bobwhite quail and pheasant. Other hunts, including for snowshoe hare, are still in play. The next major hunt after the winter seasons is the spring turkey hunt, which doesn’t begin until late April.
