The snow is done in the state after the overnight Tuesday storm. Next up is another big storm system, which will move through Maine late Tuesday and Wednesday.
Accuweather senior meteorologist Brian Thompson says it’ll be wet instead of snowy.
“This one is going to be with a push of some warmer air,” said Thompson. “Believe it or not, temperatures are going to be in the 50s heading into (Wednesday), and we are going to see some rain, and it’s going to be a fair amount of rain. I think we’re looking at a solid one to two inches of rain out of this next system. Again, the rain starts late (Tuesday) will last through Wednesday.”
Thompson says wind will play a major role in the upcoming storm. “The bigger concern, though, may actually be the wind,” Thompson said. “We do have some high wind watches up already for later tomorrow, and there’s going to be those strong winds, perhaps gusting over 50 miles per hour later Wednesday into Wednesday night.”
Power outages will be a big risk with the high winds extending from the coast inland into Lewiston and Augusta. There’ll likely be enough high winds to cause downed trees and powerlines along with widespread power outages.
So when will the next snow take place? Thompson says it’ll be a while.
“I will say, over the next week or so, I don’t see a whole lot of opportunities for significant snow,” Thompson said. “So, we’re going to be kind of in and out of the colder weather over the next week or so, but we’ll see if that can change as we get closer to Christmas. But at this point, I don’t see any big chances for any big snows any time over the next week or so.”
