A man charged in the shooting death of his brother has been shot and killed by police.

The Maine Dept. of Public Safety announced in a press release Thursday morning that 28-year-old Shay McKenna was shot by an officer Wednesday.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for McKenna due to a violation of bail conditions.

Public safety says McKenna was observed carrying a firearm, which he was prohibited from possessing.

An investigation led police to Rangely Plantation, where McKenna was staying.

Police say McKenna had a rifle and was wearing a ballistic vest when exited a van he was hiding in.

According to the release, that’s when he was shot and killed by state trooper Jeffrey Parks, who’s now on administrative leave while the Maine Attorney General’s Office investigates, which is standard procedure.

McKenna was arrested in Dec. 2022 after police found his 23-year-old brother, Drew McKenna, seriously hurt at a home in Rumford.

Drew McKenna died at the hospital the next day.
