Man charged in fatal Maine beach attack held without bail

ALFRED, Maine (AP) A Massachusetts man charged with fatally beating his domestic partner on a Maine beach was ordered held without bail.

Maine State Police charged 33-year-old Jeffrey Buchannan, of Bedford, Massachusetts, with murder in the death of 35-year-old Rhonda Pattelena. The attack behind a large rock on Short Sands Beach in York prompted multiple 911 calls to police on Friday. Pattelena was dead when police arrived.

Buchannan appeared before a judge on Tuesday. The judge also ordered a mental health evaluation.
