The Maine Marine Patrol recovered the body of John Charles Holmes, 70, of Georgetown in the Kennebec River Sunday morning, according to our info partners at CBS 13.

Holmes was last seen swimming in the river on Saturday with a friend according to Marine Patrol.

His friend was able to return to their boat and called 911 when she witnessed him struggling in the current.

Marine Patrol responded to the scene on Saturday with members of the dive team and began searching the area where Holmes’ boat was anchored, about half a mile south of the town landing in Richmond.

Patrol suspended the search Saturday night due to low visibility,

Marine Patrol and members of the dive team returned to the scene Sunday morning to continue the search. His body was found around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning by the dive team using a side scan sonar.
