Auburn Police say a 36-year-old Lisbon man is safe after a dramatic rescue at Great Falls on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers say they went to the scene after a social media post by the man indicated he intended to harm himself by jumping off the Longley Bridge.

Police say they located the man out on the rocks at Great Falls and launched a boat with officers on board.

They say the water flow was temporarily reduced to allow them to reach the area.

Officers say the man jumped a short distance into a pool of water and was briefly stuck among the rocks before making his way toward them.

They say they continued communicating with the man until they were able to safely take him into protective custody.

The man, who was uninjured, was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center for a psychological evaluation.
