Man sentenced in crash that left bicyclist dead in Rumford

A Maine man has been sentenced to 18 months behind bars for striking and killing a bicyclist while under the influence.

According to the Sun Journal, 40-year-old Alger Aleck of Mexico, Maine pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated criminal operating under the influence.

The crash happened on Route 2 in Rumford in May of 2020. Police said Aleck was under the influence when he struck Dorothy McKellick, who was on a bicycle. McKellick died at the scene.

Aleck faces three years probation after his release and will lose his driver’s license for 10 years.
