Man shot and killed during armed confrontation with police in South Portland

A Man was shot and killed during a confrontation with South Portland police on Friday.

At about 4 a.m., officers were dispatched to Summit Terrace Apartments for a domestic violence call with shots fired.

Upon arrival, the victim informed officers that the suspect had fled the apartment in his pickup truck.

While investigating the incident, the suspect returned to the scene, and according to police, that’s when the armed confrontation began.

A news release from the police department said officer Anthony Verville shot and killed Christapher Dodge, 47, at the scene.

Officer Verville has been placed on administrative leave, standard procedure following police-involved shootings.

The incident is being investigated by the Maine Attorney General’s Office.
