PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN)  A man that mailed cyanide to a suicidal Englishman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

United States Attorney Halsey Frank announced the sentence for Sidney Kilmartin Tuesday.  The 56-year-old from Windham was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and must pay $1,041 in restitution.

Kilmartin was found guilty of mailing cyanide resulting in death, wire and mail fraud and witness tampering in October 2016.

At trial, evidence showed Kilmartin communicated with hundreds of depressed and suicidal people by email, offering them cyanide in exchange for payment.  He mailed some of the victims Epsom salts instead.

Frank says one victim in England did not die from the Epson salts and complained to the FBI.  Kilmartin then sent him the real cyanide, resulting in the man’s death in December 2012.

Trial evidence showed showed Kilmartin asked the victim to destroy evidence of their interaction.
